RateGame "Picks"
RateGame is a Sports game rating app. You watch a sports game, then you can come to our app and give it a rating and write a take on what you thought about it. You can read takes from others as well.
This case study follows our lean process of adding a new feature that we think will benefit the app. The feature is "Picks", which allows users to pick which team they think will win the upcoming game.
Role
Product Designer, Analytics
Industry

Hypothesis
Before getting straight to building we had to look at our business goals and see how this new feature idea aligns with them. Our goals for the months leading up to this have been to increase growth and retention. Here is what we thought adding "Picks" would do to our app:
Increase retention
Predictions will push users to return the next day and see results of the game they picked.
Increase number of takes
Predictions will deepen fan “investment” in the game → more takes
Increase session duration
Leaving more takes and browsing the slate should increase session time.
Design and Build
Picks will show up on the home page, slate page, and game details page. The picks should show what percentage of users picked which team, and give an indicator of who you picked.

Learn
After launching the picks, I worked with the developer to set up analytics for specific metrics we wanted to track in PostHog. I then followed the analytics and provided a summary report which I reviewed with the team.
